Descendants of Herbert Gonsky
Generation No. 1
HERBERT1 GONSKY was born in Poland. He married MARIAN. She was probably born in Poland.
Child of HERBERT GONSKY and MARIAN is:
2. i. MORRIS2 GOLD, b. 15 Aug 1877, Platzk, Russia; d. April 26, 1946, Syracuse.
Generation No. 2
MORRIS2 GOLD (HERBERT1 GONSKY) was born August 15, 1877 (though I've seen some records that list his DOB as 1875 and 1876) in Platzk, Russia (I've also seen his place of birth as Platzk, Poland), and died April 26, 1946 in Syracuse, New York. He married ESTHER CHAPPIE (or Leipschaper?), daughter of LOUIS CHAPPA and RUTH CHAPPIE. She was born 1878 in Vichagrat, Russia, and died June 18, 1957 in Syracuse.
Notes for MORRIS GOLD:
Ruth Bronstein mailed to me in May of 2002 a copy of Morris Gold's Facts for Petition for Naturalization, on which he stated that he emigrated to the United States on or about December 25, 1904 (from Southampton, England. They'd lived in London after leaving Russia), at the port of New York, New York, on January 1, 1905 on the vessel Philadelphia American Line. He declared his intention to become a citizen of the US on August 20, 1910 at Syracuse, NY, in the Supreme Court of Syracuse Onondaga Co. New York. At the time this form was filled out (I do not know if this form is in his handwriting, or that of an employee of the US Dept of Labor), he and Esther resided at 606 Harrison Street, in Syracuse.
When Morris and Esther (and Louis) left Russia, Nicholas the 2nd was the "Emperor of all Russia".
Morris' occupation was "ladies tailor".
On some paperwork that Ruth sent me, someone had written in that Morris was born in 1878.
He and Esther were members of Temple Beth El
Morris and Esther stated on the 1930 US Census that they were both 17 when they married. They lived at 108 Ferris Avenue, Onandaga County, Syracuse, New York, along with Goldie (age 25 at the time the census was taken April 2, 1930), Bernard (age 18), and Tillie (age 17).
Birnbaum Mortuary has handled all family burials.
Real name: Merric Gonsky!
Morris died April 26, 1946.

Description (for England and Wales, Civil Registration Index):
"On 1 July 1837 a civil registration system for births, marriages and deaths was introduced in England and Wales. Registration was undertaken by civil registrars who reported to the Registrar General at the General Register Office (GRO) in London, now part of the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Copies of anyone's birth, marriage or death certificates can be obtained by the public. They are vital to family historians because of the genealogical information that they include." (Mark D. Herber, Ancestral Trails, Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., 1998)
Since the original birth, marriage and death registers are not open to the public, getting access to the information on one of these certificates is done by first searching the national birth, marriage and death indexes, that have been created by the GRO for this purpose. The indexes for the three events are each divided into quarterly volumes, with the names for each quarter listed alphabetically. Once an entry in one of the indexes is found, you are then able to use that information to order of copy of a death, marriage or birth certificate from the GRO/ONS. The other information that can be obtained from the index includes: year, record type, quarter (March, June, September, and December), district (each county in England and Wales was divided up into registration districts), volume, and page number. Note: names were entered into the volume of the quarter in which notification of the event was received, not necessarily the quarter in which the event actually occurred.
Extended Description:
The massive task of digitising and, making searchable, the names contained in the GRO indexes has been underway for a few years now. This database is made available to Ancestry.com users, courtesy of the volunteers of the FreeBMD organization. The leadership of FreeBMD have organized the permissions and tools necessary to enable hundreds of volunteers to convert to electronic text, and publish online, searchable indexes to the civil registrations in England and Wales. FreeBMD, has already indexed more than 62 million names between the years of 1837 and 1983, and more names continue to be added everyday. Ancestry will add to this database as FreeBMD provides more names. It is estimated that more than 50% of the names between 1837 and 1983 have been indexed. Because of the nature of the index you will note that not all of the fields have been indexed all of the time. Until 1866, most of the indexes were handwritten, making the task of conversion sometimes difficult.
